Having read other’s post on actual day of labour, it’s really mix feeling. Some are experience smooth and easy one, some went through hours of suffering. Frankly speaking, don’t dare to think about it how the actual day will happen. After all it’s not something we can really plan. Ya, some might say having Caesarian can plan. But there’s also cases baby arrives before the caesarian day. So, let’s not worry about it. Gynae have mention we will try natural.
Personally I thought baby might arrives on due date or later a bit. WH was wishing they have the same birthday, but gynae have mention cannot be overdue for too long. Nevertheless I have stopped working after week 38. So that I can have some rest at home while waiting.
After the ctg scan, I feel contraction early in the morning like 5am the next day. Didn’t wake up WH as don’t know whether it’s the actual contraction or fake one. Fall back to sleep but couldn’t sleep at all. Cuz the contraction still happening, but the interval is quite long. Gynae did mention if contraction, can go hospital direct when the interval around 5 minutes. After WH woke up, told him the condition. He mention we should just wait till the contraction interval is shorter, hospital there might ask us go back if too early. Back in my mind, it’s also better happening on the weekend, if on his working day, I might need to go hospital myself first. The contraction still continue, it’s not that pain, just like somebody squeeze your tummy every now and then. It’s only till around 11pm, the contraction like every 8-10 minutes, we decided to go to hospital. Still got time to bath, have some food, take picture before bring the hospital bag to go to hospital.
Once we reached the hospital, WH brought me to the delivery area where nurse bring me to the delivery suite and WH went down for admission. I remember change into the hospital robe, need to clear the bowel before start the ctg monitoring and drip. It was still quite relax, there’s a TV in the room. It’s waiting time, nurse come and check, dilation is just 1cm, baby head position still high. She mention if I want to start the epidural now or later. On and off can hear next door is yelling for pain.
Couldn’t really sleep, wake up again and again due to the contraction pain. Nurse just left us in the delivery suite, until we asks for epidural around 4am. They explained the possible side effect and let me sign the agreement form. The anaesthetist came over to inject epidural, I have to bent in c shape. It will takes sometimes before I can feel the epidural takes effect. Thereafter can sleep better. Gynae came over in the morning to check on me, dilation very slow. Until 12 noon, the dilation still about 5 cm. Gynae told us that we would wait till 4pm to decide.
Didn’t feel any hunger or thirsty even after 12 hours, just lay there praying while try to sleep. About 4pm, nurses and Gynae came over to check, the dilation stuck at 5,6 cm, didn’t open further 😦 I was having slight fever too. Arggh… I thought it be all smooth. Gynae announce must have the emergency c-sec now. After signing the agreement, then let me drink something. I vomit all out while being push to the operating theatre. The journey is horrible, I didn’t know what to expect, my hands keep shaking uncontrollably, WH cannot go in. Scare even though Gynae keep assuring me that she will be around. I’m in the operating theatre now, hand keep shaking, mind is conscious but confuse and scare. Can’t feel the pain, but can feel they are doing something, the only thing ease me is the voice of Gynae. About 20-30 minutes, I hear the cry of baby. Oh my, my baby is arrived! Nurse bring her to me, I can’t hug her, I could see her and feel now after this 270 days. No tears as I still shocked over this sudden surgery. I’m glad that she all well after this long waiting. The stitching takes quite awhile.
By the time I open my eyes again, I was already in the ward. I think I must have fallen to sleep after seeing my baby. It seems like so long but it was just 5 plus in the evening. Baby was in the nursery, WH showed me the photo and told me that he has see the baby, nurse taking her measurement and tag her.
Around 6 plus, nurse bring baby over, can finally hold her in my arm. She is slightly lighter than last scan at 3.035kg. Nurse also show me how to do breastfeeding, first is massage, wow, can squeeze out collustrum! Then how to let baby latch on correctly and different way to hold baby for breastfeeding. Baby so smart, she knew how to suck even just few hours after born. She closes her eyes most of the time and sleeping even if we try to wake her up. The pain is terrible to move myself up for breastfeeding actually. But I’m glad she’s able to latch on. Even though I didn’t know whether she getting enough milk not. Thereafter, every 3 hours they will bring me baby for nursing. WH can also pick her up from nursery.
The start of motherhood began here.
Thank god all is well, even though she arrived in different way we expect.
