I took my entire maternity leave of 16 weeks. I do have the option to take 12 weeks then the remain 4 weeks can be taken for 1 year. Due to my work nature, it’s might not be so easy for me to clear leave, so I decided to utilize all 16 weeks at one go. Well, I guess I still can utilize the child care leave and annual leave if needed.
My plan is to breastfeed her for at least 6 months, so I would need to prep both of us after I start work. During the 16 weeks at home, I mostly let her latch on directly. I would pump like once a day when I feel it’s too full and baby will not needed to be feed soon. So most of the expressed milk will be store directly into the freezer. I only realize that we got to let the milk chilled first before transfer them to freezer, reading from internet stating lost of nutrients if transfer direct due to drastic temperature change. Only certain days when I’m away, she will be bottle fed by mil. I scared she will have nipple confusion, so I let WH or mil do the feeding from bottle. Initially she was using medela Calma. But it takes her damn long to finish the milk, cuz need to suck hard to get the milk and she get tired of that and refuse to drink. Baby is smart! They want easy way too! We switch her to tommee tippee since we already bought it before she was born.
Since I be going back to workforce soon, we start to regular her timing. By calculating the hours I will be away, the volume she take in.. we calculate as follow. 3 hours feed of 3oz each time, I would prepare 3 *3 oz.=9oz of milk. One from the old stock, frozen breast milk, the other 2 will be yesterday stock in the fridge. I prepare one bottle extra in case I be late or the milk spill, etc. To let frozen breast milk thaw take very long time. So I would normally place the frozen milk bag or bottle inside a mug fill with water and let it thaw inside the fridge. This way is much quicker compare just thaw it inside the fridge. I will prepare the milk bottles and fill up accordingly before leaving for work. Mil just need to take 1 bottle out to warm it before her feeding. She will normally heat in warmer slightly earlier than her meal time.Warmer do takes around 15 min to work. I’m using tomme tippee warmer and milk bottle. Try to get same brand, so that they will fit nicely in the warmer. I do have medela calma which we use to feed bb Ainsley. but its not compatible with the warmer and it will float on the warmer.
So the feeding time is as such 10am, 1pm, 4pm..and 7pm i will latch her if I’m make it home before that. As for pumping, I try scheduling 3 times a day: once at midnight at home, twice in the office. Got lots of bottle to wash and sterilze after get home. I minimize all my dinner dates, my cooler bag will not last me for so long, plus I feel bad not to home early to feed her.
20th week 4 days, OMG!OMG!! Baby Ainsley got her first tooth!!!
Mixed feeling, she moving to another phase, growing so fast! Which I didn’t expect it happen so fast, looking at my friend’s baby, they all started their first teeth after 6 months old. And I a bit worry about my (.)(.), I hope she don’t bite me. Ouch, so painful to even think of that.
