This is our N times to Batam but first time for Ainsley.
Nothing much plan for this trip as I just wanted a short trip before the arrival of No.2.
Hotel booked – Harmoni Suites
Ferry booked – Batamfast through Qoo10.. I realized is cheaper to buy through the agent. $38*3 and I can use the Qoo10 coupon too. Talk about cost saving.. their website is about $144 for 3 person. Perhaps I should try Majestic ferry next round, if we happen to visit there again.
Transportation – foot or taxi.
Morning, we went to Ainsley’s school for the parent’s workshop session where they share about the importance of play and how to play. The workshop comes with a busy book, good for first time parent like us. We have fun also where we get to play some of the games while Ainsley with the teachers & classmate.
Booked the Ferry at 3.30pm, we have to redeem our ticket at BatamFast counter first before setting off. School holiday just started, luckily wasn’t so crowded. The journey to Batam centre is about 1 hour and the ferry set off on time. We manage to nap awhile before reaching Batam. The queue at custom was quite long, we perhaps the very last few person at the line.
Thereafter we walk over the Megamall for some snacks and grocery shop before we took a cab to Hotel. Haven’t been eating A&W for so long. The root beer float is not enough cold! Waffles is ok but can’t keep for long.
Hotel was about 15 mins drive from Megamall, cost us 70k rupiah. There’s taxi counter at the entrance of Megamall. Is called a suites, thus the room comes with the small kitchen. But we didn’t manage to use it at all, except for boiling water. Not a very big room, tv channel is ok, come with bathtub and water pressure was good. The bed is comfortable as we sleep more this time round. Hotel staff is quite friendly, didn’t manage to use the pool /gym. It could be better if the hotel can have more stuff for kids, there wasn’t a kid pool. Nevertheless Ainsley enjoy the bath tub a lot, she would request to every time we go back to the room.
Rest and head off to Nagoya Hill mall for dinner. It’s about 10 minutes walk distance from the Hotel. Can ask the receptionist for the direction. Oh ya, there’s also shuttle service to Nagoya Hill mall, however is only available on Sat with limited time slot. Do check with the front desk person if you would like to take the shuttle service. We had our dinner at one of the restaurant that looks more crowded, food was nothing to shout about. There’s food street, open air, we didn’t went there as there are smokers around. Bought some snacks from hypermart and JCo donut before walk back to hotel.
Next day breakfast we went quite late and there wasn’t much food left. Hopefully they can improve on the taste of the food. Another round of rest before we go over to BCS mall, suppose to be the newer mall. Ask the receptionist to arrange for transport, 70k.
This mall looks much newer but same as Nagoya Hill, the mall’s air con wasn’t very cold. We had our lunch here then go to the Arcade to play for awhile, the arcade is cheap but not all equipment was well maintained. And certain part of it allow smoking. So we didn’t stay for the place for long. We also manage to catch a movie in their cinema. The price is much cheaper compare to Sg, their staff keep walking in to sell pop-corn/drinks before the show start. Ainsley was happily enjoy the pop-corn and she start her nap once the movie start. The movies was ok but definitely not suitable for kids as it’s too violence. Thank god she sleep most of the time and we could finish the movie. Haha, it’s been a while we went to cinema. I would want to bring her again if there;s movie suitable for kids. Dinner time, we choose the HK town restaurant, the food was so-so, the only plus point is they have game set, chess, uono stack which can keep Ainsley occupied while waiting the food to be served. We took the taxi back to hotel costs us 50k, and the driver actually offer to bring us to buy kueh lapis and fetch us to the ferry terminal the next day.
The overall hotel stay was pleasant, just that the renovation works start at 9am on Monday morning. Well, the breakfast also end earlier at 10am on Monday, so quickly get ourselves ready to breakfast. Same spread as previous day, hmmm… if stays for more days, I think we would rather eat outside. Taxi fetch us to the kueh lapis shop first and we manage to buy 2 box, each cost 170k, definitely much cheaper than SG. The taste was quite nice, ask them to cut into half, so that we can pass to our neighbours.
After that he drops us at Megamall, had Pizzahut for lunch before heading back to Sg. Would not recommend Pizzahut at megamall, the pasta with fry small onion..odds..Ferry set off and our short trip ended.
After thoughts.. we might not be going Batam again in near future. Despite the short distance, basically there’s nothing much to do in Batam, partly also due to my pregnancy that I have no energy to shop or walk so much too, food wasn’t of my liking. And it really makes me miss Bali, haha. Nicer food, nicer stays.. we probably get a driver to send us around. Well, next trip is still far to say…
