Has been awhile since I writing travel blog.
Ever since we have our first kid, the furthest we went is Bangkok and the most frequent place we fly is KL. Thus there was not so much things to blog about our travel.
This is the first time we are travelling further with 5 of us, 3 adults and 2 kids. It was not easy to plan this trip as there is a lot more consideration to make and sacrifice we need to make. We spend months to prepare for this trip, just to make sure everyone get to enjoy this trip.
Firstly, travel date. Considering we have young kids and elder to travelling with us this time, we are avoiding the cold period and summer. Thus we finally chosen May as it is low season, not so cold for everybody. The weather was pretty good except rain on one of the day. Sunny day with the temperature of 24 but feel like 29 degree. So getting a sunblock is essential.
Secondly, the flight. Fly time 7 hours. Budget airline out. We left with the choice of JAL, ANA or SIA. JAL no seat available for the date we selected, ANA and SIA cost similar and we finally decided to choose SIA. We decided to take the morning flight as read a lot about the horror story of taking midnight flight. We were worry if the kids not able to sleep throughout the midnight flight, then everybody will not be getting enough rest and most hotel only allow check in after 2pm.
Thirdly, accommodation whether to choose Airbnb or hotel. Due to our combination of 5 persons, the selection of hotel or Airbnb is actually very limited. Especially on airbnb, the total cost are much higher than hotel. We finally booked the hotel after much research. After the recent news about new ruling on renting of apartment in Japan, do be careful if you choose to stay in Airbnb.
Forth, the itinerary. Have to make it more flexible and less pack. The only things we didn’t arrange is food. Our trip comprise of Tokyo city, 3 days Fuji Hakone and 2 days of Disneyland, DisneySea.
Fifth, Budget. Each of us have different expectation to the trip, thus the cost maybe varies to each individual.
The transportation in Tokyo is so complicated. We cut short everything by just buying the pasmo card, haha. Didn’t opt for the Metro Day pass as we don’t want to waste the pass by not travelling enough yet making all of us so tired. For budget traveler, definitely is good to get the Metro Day pass if you will be travelling on Metro line throughout your day more than 3 times..
Travel to airport around 5am, our flight is 8am in the morning. On board flight was smooth. Baby K manage to sleep half of the journey, he wake up hourly but manage to sleep back. Child meal and post weaning meal is bigger portion than we expected. But post weaning meal shouldn’t include fresh milk. We purposely chosen the bassinet seat as the front is more spacious and bassinet provided. Gratefully baby K willing to sleep inside. Our meal is ok, entertainment system is good as usual but didn’t manage to catch any movie throughout the flight.
We reached Haneda airport close to 4pm, custom clear quite fast and the staff there quite helpful to direct us to the priority queue. We get the Pasmo for three and off to the train station. Taking the Keiyu Line to Shinagawa then change to JR to Shinjuku. There’s some delay that causing us to stuck in the train with crazy crowd going back home, all of us shagged and shock as people keep pushing their way into the train. We finally reached Shinjuku and manage to find our hotel.
WH presented the slip for check-in then was told we are checking in the wrong hotel, similar name different location -_-||| my bad for not double check with WH the hotel address. We decided to have our dinner first before go to the correct hotel. Ramen and fry rice, tasted so-so but we really lazy to find one again and took the cab to our hotel at Yotsuya. The cab fare still reasonable and we would just pay it even if expensive. For short distance the cab fare is not that expensive, so can consider take if more than 2 persons.
Finally check-in to our hotel and can have some rest before the start of our trip. The hotel was well located, with 2 convenience store and few eateries on the same road, 3 minutes walking distance to the Yotusya Sanchome metro station. Lobby area has two coffee machines that provides free coffee and we always drink before we go out and come back from outside. Room size was OK, comes with Handy Hp (free smart Hp) that we can bring out to use for free data/call during our stay with the hotel. Basement got coin operated laundromat.
